First Order Plus Dead Time (FOPDT)
With the controller in manual and the process at steady state around its normal process target, step change the controller's output.
Make no other changes until the process returns to steady state. The output step must be large enough to noticeably change the
process variable, even in the presence of process noise. You may conduct multiple and bi-directional output steps.
Integrating
With the controller in manual, allow the process variable to trend for a period of time.
The process may be steady state; it may be trending up, or it may be trending down. Step change the controller's output.
The step change must be large enough for you to notice a deflection in the process variable's trend line.
Allow the process variable to trend in the new direction for a period of time.
You may conduct multiple and bi-directional output steps.
